Elif Erkan

SAHA provided support for the production of the work Elif Erkan realized for the solo show at Portikus (6 December 2014–1 February 2015). Erkan’s first institutional solo show showcases a site-specific, expansive new installation particularly made for the building. The focus is on her “Plate pieces”, in which she smashes plates from various domestic contexts, and assembles the pieces back into tableaus by covering them in plaster. Erkan is interested in the aesthetic qualities, and the past “experiences” attached to these objects.

Elif Erkan (1985, Ankara) has graduated from HfBK Städelschule Frankfurt am Main in 2013. In 2014, she has been hosted by WIELS, Brussels as a residency artist with the support of SAHA.
