About ICI and The Curatorial Intensive

ICI connects emerging and established curators, artists, and institutions, to forge international networks and generate new forms of collaboration.

Headquartered in New York, Independent Curators International (ICI) is a small non-profit organization with a large purview. Over the last 35 years, ICI has produced 118 traveling exhibitions and profiled the work of more than 3,700 artists, working with 621 museums, university art galleries and art centers in 48 states and 29 countries worldwide. ICI produces exhibitions, events, publications, and training opportunities for diverse audiences around the world. A catalyst for independent thinking, ICI connects emerging and established curators, artists, and institutions, to forge international networks and generate new forms of collaboration. SAHA Association and ICI initiated a partnership in 2011. SAHA will be supporting the participation of curators who have been accepted to ICI’s training programs for a period of three years. SAHA’s collaboration with this internationally renowned institution of 35 years of experience has also resulted in the initiation of a “SAHA Research Grant” to provide an opportunity for the program’s alumni to continue their research. The Curatorial Intensive is ICI’s short-term program discussing the ways in which contemporary performance-art curatorship is being theorized and implemented today. 10-14 applicants are selected to participate in the Curatorial Intensive by ICI Committee to work with a faculty that includes leading artists, curators, and art historians.
