ICI organized from August 5–11, 2012 the first Curatorial Intensive held in China.

ICI organized from August 5–11, 2012 the first Curatorial Intensive held in China. Undertaken in affiliation with the College of Humanities at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, the short-course training program was entitled “The Museum of the Future?: Curating Institutions”. The progam aimed to use curatorial thinking to examine strategies for creatively building infrastructures for contemporary art that respond to the changing needs of artists and new art publics. About the Participant

Ceren Erdem participated in ICI's "Museum of the Future?: Curating Institutions" program with SAHA scholarship.

Ceren Erdem is currently based in Brooklyn, New York. She is the Co-founder and Co-curator of Court Square Project Space in Long Island City, is also Co-founder and Co-editor of Interventions, a web-based journal and curatorial platform. Erdem received her MA in Modern Art: Critical and Curatorial Studies from Columbia University and her MFA in Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design from Sabanci University in Istanbul. She previously worked as Exhibition Manager in the 9th and 10th Istanbul Biennials and provided curatorial assistance, and later as Arts and Creative Economy Manager at the British Council where she developed an extensive program across all art forms and creative sectors of Turkey and wider South East Europe.

ICI connects emerging and established curators, artists, and institutions, to forge international networks and generate new forms of collaboration.

Headquartered in New York, Independent Curators International (ICI) is a small non-profit organization with a large purview. Over the last 35 years, ICI has produced 118 traveling exhibitions and profiled the work of more than 3,700 artists, working with 621 museums, university art galleries and art centers in 48 states and 29 countries worldwide. ICI produces exhibitions, events, publications, and training opportunities for diverse audiences around the world. A catalyst for independent thinking, ICI connects emerging and established curators, artists, and institutions, to forge international networks and generate new forms of collaboration. SAHA Association and ICI initiated a partnership in 2011. SAHA will be supporting the participation of curators who have been accepted to ICI’s training programs for a period of three years. SAHA’s collaboration with this internationally renowned institution of 35 years of experience has also resulted in the initiation of a “SAHA Research Grant” to provide an opportunity for the program’s alumni to continue their research. The Curatorial Intensive is ICI’s short-term program discussing the ways in which contemporary performance-art curatorship is being theorized and implemented today. 10-14 applicants are selected to participate in the Curatorial Intensive by ICI Committee to work with a faculty that includes leading artists, curators, and art historians.
