SAHA and the Institute Art Gender Nature at Basel Academy of Art and Design FHNW are pleased to continue their collaboration, initiated in autumn 2025.

Dilek Winchester

September-November 2026

As part of the ongoing partnership, the second guest artist Dilek Winchester, the research-based work of Dilek Winchester investigates how the printed word and the typographic space create a sense of belonging. Her interest in the communities formed through publishing ranges from artists’ zines to the hybrid printing world in the 19th-century Ottoman Empire. Her research interests focus on the alphabet reforms, the symbolic meaning of alphabets, and the politics of translation. In her curatorial work, she has explored artistic and academic work shaped by experiences of exile and displacement.

Özgür Demirci

September-November 2025

The first guest of the collaboration was Özgür Demirci, in his video and installation-based practice, brings together a poetic aesthetic with a political perspective, exploring notions such as memory, testimony, and the trace of the unseen. His works often navigates a mythological path, where the personal and the collective converge, and recent explorations extend this poetic-political approach into the terrains of industrial legacy, machinery, masculinity, and the socio-economic transformations orbiting automobile culture.

The Institute Art Gender Nature is dedicated to the understanding of an art practice in entanglement with the values of diversity, interspecies coexistence, social justice and love. The practice is understood as a substance that questions materiality, technologies and different knowledges. Art deals with experience and experience is an immediate way to understand our relations to the world – to nature, to all forms of life. Experience is, as well, the realm of the senses, not only the eyes, but synchronically all the organs that made us part of nature. Art is the place that renders evident that Modern science and technology must coexist with indigenous and ancient knowledges. Why? Because the future of a post-colonial society depends on our ability to relate to very different thought systems and to shelter and care for the values of life. The Institute Art Gender Nature wants to be the place where to exercise this ability, the place that performs a trust in artists and art, that, hopefully, would be transferred to our society.
