Farid Rakun is an artist, writer, editor, educator, and instigator based in Jakarta. Trained as an architect, he currently works as an editor and researcher with the artists’ collective ruangrupa. Together with ruangrupa, he co-curated SONSBEEK ’16: transACTION in Arnhem, the Netherlands, in 2016.

Rakun holds a BArch from the University of Indonesia (2005) and an MArch from Cranbrook Academy of Art (2013). In response to today’s fast-paced, growth-oriented society, he embraces slowness as a deliberate working strategy. His practice encompasses the design and production of buildings, objects, installations, and interventions, as well as writing and editing books and other publications.

He has collaborated with cultural and educational institutions including the University of Indonesia, Tarumanagara University, Cranbrook Academy of Art, the University of Michigan, the University of Hong Kong, Goethe-Institut, Centre Culturel Français, ruangrupa, and RUJAK Center for Urban Studies. These experiences have shaped his belief in the productive encounters generated through collaborative practice.
