Müge Yılmaz

Karachi Biennale

SAHA supports Müge Yılmaz’s new project Three Hundred Sisters at the fourth edition of the Karachi Biennale between 27 October – 10 November 2024. Curated by Waheeda Baloch, KB24 delves into the themes of Rizq | Risk, offering artists the opportunity to direct their gaze toward rising global issues of food security. Müge Yılmaz participates with a large installation in the shape of 300 maize plants. The installation consists of real maize of different kinds, colours, and biodiversity with hand carved- oak sculptures. Three Hundred Sisters stands against mono-culture both in the cultivation of food and against mono-cultural thinking among humans.

Müge Yilmaz (1985, İstanbul) work and research presents speculative narratives on the future distilled through feminist science fiction. She obtained a MFA in photography at ISIA Urbino, Italy and was a resident artist at the Rijksakademie van Beelde Kunsten in 2013 - 2014, Amsterdam, Netherlands.

In her work, Müge Yılmaz examines the paradoxes around the concept of protection with a strong sense for community, survival and belief. Through performances, photographs and installations she creates atmospheres inspired by feminist science-fiction. Following the concept of three ecologies for observing the mental (personal), societal and environmental developments in a parallel method, she uses image and performance as tools for envisioning potential futures. She lives and works in Amsterdam.
