Faysal Altunbozar, Özgür Kar

Singapore Biennale 2025

SAHA supports Singapore Biennale 2025 intitled pure intention within Özgür Kar and Faysal Altunbozar’s projects between 31 October 2025 – 29 march 2026.

Singapore Biennale 2025: pure intention presents contemporary art in multiple venues and public spaces, inviting audiences of all walks of life to experience Singapore’s many layers built by all of those who have been a part of its history, collectively creating a city that is as planned as it is full of discovery, surprises and interesting juxtapositions. The Biennale will engage with spaces ranging from pre-colonial and colonial landmarks transformed into public, green areas repurposed for recreation, residential neighbourhoods and lived spaces, to shopping centres that have evolved into social spaces for Singapore’s diverse communities.

Faysal Altunbozar (1993, Istanbul) is a cross-disciplinary artist currently living and working in London, United Kingdom. Altunbozar creates objects and spatial interventions that layer cultural histories with playful allusions to the body, reframing dichotomies of power and pleasure. Drawing from ecosystems, human interactions, and cultural histories, he crafts works that explore hybridity, coexistence, the erotics of objects, and constructions of masculinity.

Özgür Kar (1992, Ankara) lives and works in Amsterdam. Kar’s works assemble in space to function as scenes from theatre pieces: each serves as a character playing its part within a non-linear score and script. Working with voice actors and instrumentalists, Kar produces multi-part soundscapes that unfold through solemn repetition, forging existential dread mixed with cartoonish macabre. Stoic in their contemplation, his minimally animated drawings are set in imperceptible loops that turn videos into sculptures confined within the edge of television screens. Beyond the campness of macabre, or the grotesque anxiety of death juxtaposed with cartoonish figures, the theatricality of Kar’s work is set in tonal displays of contemporary existentialism.
