In Sevil Tunaboylu’s practice, exercises on the cohabitation of objects she encounters and off-frame portraits whose witnessed traces take center stage. As part of her research methodology, Tunaboylu examines her subjects by continuously repositioning them in different contexts and opening a space for transitioning from painting to sculpture.
She received her BA in painting from the Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts in 2005. As one of the founders, she co-managed the non-profit initiative Mtaär Open Art Space between 2008 and 2010. As a member of the feminist collective Alaca Heyheyler, she organizes exhibitions and workshops and produces artist publications. She has been working as a visual arts instructor since 2007. She lives and works in Istanbul.
