Midterm Gathering at SAHA Studio

Conceived by SAHA as a space and program of research, interaction and production for artists, writers and curators, SAHA Studio hosts five artists from different cities of Turkey as well as a curator from Greece.

The participants of the sixth term between March-September 2023 are Cansu Çakar, Burak Delier, Merve Ertufan, Burak Kabadayı, and Evrim Kavcar, who have been working on their new works in different mediums at SAHA Studio since March. The artists are planning to impart fragments from their studio processes to the visitors at SAHA Studio Open on 17 and 22 June. Moreover, Ioanna Gerakidi who is the third curator hosted at SAHA Studio in collaboration with the Athens-based contemporary art institution ARTWORKS, is conducting research in Turkey between May and June 2023, the outcomes of which she is to share with the visitors on Thursday, 22 June. Furthermore, during the midterm open studio days, the visitors will get to see Monica Papi and Özgür Demirci’s video, Anthus produced within the scope of World Weather Network, along with other artists’ texts, digital recordings of presentations realized for the WWN, as well as the Graph Commons platform that presents the network map of the projects supported by SAHA thus far.

Launched in Summer 2019 in Beyoğlu, Istanbul, SAHA Studio contributes to the participants' collective learning and development by peer-to-peer meetings, presentations, gatherings, as well as research trips, visits to exhibitions, collections, and artist studios. SAHA also hosts curators, writers, and institution representatives from Turkey and abroad for different periods of time to make research at SAHA Studio, supporting their interaction with the Istanbul art scene and artists. The selections and consultancy for SAHA Studio, where 5 artists and 1-2 writers/curators are invited per term, are made by a three-member selection committee. In 2023, the selection committee consists of artist Ali Kazma, curator Kevser Güler, and Çelenk Bafra, who received a total of 38 nominations from the eight independent initiatives supported by SAHA Sustainability Fund and the 2021 participants of the program’s both terms.
