The new term at SAHA Studio begins in collaboration with the Istanbul Biennial and the World Weather Network
Aiming to provide artists from Turkey opportunities for learning, and to strengthen their production environments through global networks and connections, SAHA Studio begins its fifth term. The participants of the term taking place between June-December 2022 are Atıf Akın, Elmas Deniz, Can Küçük, Burcu Yağcıoğlu, and Ahmet Öğüt & Silent University Orientation Program team (Amal Jibril, Suha Nabhan, Yelta Köm).
SAHA Studio is among the official participants and venues of the 17th Istanbul Biennial. Open every Wednesday and Saturday from 12 to 7 pm throughout the biennial period, artists’ studios and works in progress are to be presented in parallel to talks and conversations. Offering a close-up to the production phases of the artists, SAHA Studio is to bring together those who wish to cultivate a deeper bond with art. Once again, SAHA provides funds for the new projects of all artists from Turkey in the Istanbul Biennial. Moreover, the Istanbul Biennial curators and international artists are provided accommodation at SAHA Residency in Galata.
SAHA’s participation in the World Weather Network, which brings together artists and writers from 28 countries in response to the global climate crisis, plays a key part in the fall programming of SAHA Studio in Fall 2022. The resident artists, Elmas Deniz, Can Küçük, and Burcu Yağcıoğlu are invited to the program by the independent art initiative, m-est.org, which collaborates with SAHA for the World Weather Network, whereas Atıf Akın and Ahmet Öğüt & Silent University Orientation Program’s participation as artists of the 17th Istanbul Biennial are designated mutually with the curators of the biennial. Founded in 2019 by SAHA Association in a 350-meter square repurposed space in Beyoğlu, SAHA Studio provides the invited artists a working space and curatorial support, along with grants sustaining the research, production, exhibiting and presentation of their works. Also hosting curators and researchers from abroad, SAHA Studio contributes to the enrichment of the dialogue in the artistic milieu through its programs, which receives over 10 participants in two consecutive terms every year.
