Eda Emirdağ will focus on the details of her new project titled Belly Button, exhibited at Open Eye Gallery in Liverpool, and the experiences gained throughout the process during her presentation at SAHA Studio on March 22 at 3:00 pm. The presentation will feature Eda Emirdağ, along with Liz Wewiora, the Head of Social Practice at Open Eye Gallery, and Dr. Helen McGhie, Senior Lecturer in Photography at Manchester Metropolitan University’s School of Digital Arts.
With the grant received through the "Creative Producer" training program by the British Council and Turkey British Council, the artist carried out an artist residency program to explore the international dialogue (SEPN) and practices of socially engaged photography in Manchester and Liverpool. As part of this project, the artist presented the fanzine she produced and the works she created with SAHA’s support for video production in a fanzine launch and artist talk on March 8 at Liverpool Open Eye Gallery, introducing her work to the UK audience.
We kindly remind that the event will be held in English.
Eda Emirdağ (1986, Istanbul) studied International Relations at St. Kliment Ohridski University in Sofia. She won a full scholarship in 2013 in the Department of Photography and Video. The artist works on social issues such as women's politics and refugee issues, as well as photography ethics, presentation aesthetics, image representation, and archives. She experiments with video, photography, collage, and performance.
Open Eye Gallery is a non-profit, independent photography gallery in Liverpool and one of the leading photography venues in the UK. It is the only gallery in North West England dedicated to photography and related media. The gallery believes that photography can be meaningful to everyone, can inform our present, and inspire positive futures. By working with people, it explores photography’s unique ability to connect, tell stories, question, reflect on humanity’s past and present, and celebrate its diversity and creativity. Open Eye Gallery is a leader in the national development of the Socially Engaged Photography Network (SEPN). SEPN is an initiative that supports artists and communities coming together to produce collaborative work on important issues.
